SUMMARY:Roles and Responsibilities of a Non-Profit Board
DESCRIPTION:Board members of an incorporated\, non-profit organization are legally responsible for the governance of the organization and are expected to develop\, implement and monitor policies that will allow the organization to carry out its mission.\n\nBeyond their legal duties\, board members are also important resources - they contribute to the culture\, effectiveness\, and strategic focus\, as well as act as ambassadors and advocates for the work being done by the organization. While a board may appoint staff and/or committees to carry out the work related to its policies\, programs and services\, the board is ultimately responsible for meeting outcomes.\n\nIn this workshop\, participants will learn the best practices of board governance\, the legal duties and responsibilities of board directors\, and risk management that will ensure that the organization has the right resources to advance its mission.\n\nTopics Covered Include:\n\n\n	Key roles and responsibilities of the board and its members\n	Common board governance structures and which one best fits your organization\n	How committees can support the work of the board\n	Understanding bylaws\, policies and procedures\n	Identifying the legal duties and liabilities of the board\n\n\nWho should attend?\n\nThis workshop was designed to assist individuals with little (or no) board governance experience\, those who would like to refresh their knowledge\, or those who are working with boards that have gotten a little off track.\n\nFacilitators:\n\nAs the owner/principal of Building Up\, Wendy Bulloch is an experienced team leader and has been identified as a "process builder" to people and organizations in various capacities including: an Executive Director\, leader\, partnership builder\, project manager and a facilitator and trainer. Wendy has served on a variety of boards and board committees over the past 25+ years in Manitoba and across Canada. She was the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her volunteer work with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba\n\nKamillah El-Giadaa holds a degree in Recreation Management and Community Development from the University of Manitoba. As the Training and Development Manager at Volunteer Manitoba\, she supports the sector by coordinating professional development opportunities for the non-profit sector. Kamillah has dedicated her career to working with volunteers at various organizations and\, most recently\, helped Action marguerite\, a long-term care home\, build their volunteer program. She is passionate about empowering volunteers through knowledge!
