Domestic Violence in LGBTQ2SIA Communities
Keynote Speaker- Racheal Wu
Racheal has spent a majority of her life in the Westman region; she lived in rural Manitoba before relocating to Brandon for post-secondary education. She obtained her degree in Gender and Women’s Studies from Brandon University in 2017. She worked in a domestic violence advocacy role at The Women’s Resource Centre in Brandon for two years, before moving into her 2STLGBQ+ Program Facilitator role at The Sexuality Education Resource Centre. Racheal has a passion for advocacy relating to the 2STLGBQ+ community and rural Manitoban experiences.
About the topic:
We know that domestic violence can affect anyone, anywhere, in any type of relationship. However, we do not often discuss the additional struggles that 2STLGBQ+ people may face in their experiences with domestic violence. In this session, we will look at the barriers 2STLGBQ+ people may face when seeking assistance and support from service agencies, unique challenges around community and safety planning, and how to ensure that your organization can properly support members of this community.
