These positions will provide technical support for the applied research program for the Russ Edwards School of Agriculture and Environment over the summer months. Students hired will work out of the North Hill campus, main Victoria East campus and in Minto, MB. These positions will work under the direction of senior research staff and are expected to set up and maintain greenhouse and field projects, conduct plant and plot maintenance, and data collection. These positions will provide support for applied research projects including horticulture, greenhouse technologies, soils, growth chamber, small plot, and high tunnel studies. Several positions will require a valid Manitoba full Driver’s License.
We will be hiring for the following:
- 4x - Soil sampling, bio stimulant trials, soybean disease studies (travel required)
- 1x - Legume studies in partnership with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Brandon
- 1x - Sustainable Agriculture Projects (Minto, MB)
- 2x - Study of wild pig populations, environmental DNA sampling (travel required)
- 1x - Greenhouse, grow plots, Greenhouse in a Box (very limited travel)
- 2x - Weed garden/native garden (no travel)
- 1x - Graphic arts student for work on greenhouse projects (no travel)
- Setup and maintain research projects as per established protocols and researcher oversight.
- Collect research data.
- Manage and maintain experiments.
- Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and extension materials.
- Attend and participate in project meetings.
- Must be highly detail oriented.
- High School or College students
- Maintain the highest standards of accuracy in both written and practical work.
- Knowledge of agriculture and/or horticulture an asset
- Able to work independently or part of a team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
